When
you are moving to a new city, new house and/or a new neighbourhood,
it often means you are also moving to a new school. It’s
always important to know about the amenities that each
neighbourhood has to offer and one of the most important
amenities to a family is the local schools. If possible,
it’s a good idea to book a tour of the school and
take a guided look around. If you can go during school
hours see if you can observe how the classes, that your
child would be attending, are conducted.
Some questions
you may want to ask your potential school are listed below:
- What is the average number of children per class? You
need to know if your child is going to get the attention
and assistance he or she requires.
- How is the classroom set-up? Is it conducive to learning
in multiple ways? You want to see both independent and
group learning.
- What facilities does your school have? Does the school
have any special facilities and clubs that promote student
participation and school pride.
- Do you offer any extra-curricular activities? Are there
any options for your child to get involved in sports,
arts or music? This is often a great way to make new
friends with whom they have something in common.
- Can I have a copy of the curriculum? Get an idea on
the classes offered and notice if any one particular
subject is offered more than others.
Whether your children are in elementary, middle or
secondary school, the information you need can be found
in the links below. Just locate the school that is closest
to the neighbourhood you want to live in and click on
the link. Their website should be a great place to start.
If you are looking for a particular type of education
for your children please feel free to browse through
the list of private schools available here in the Kelowna
area. These include Christian schools, Catholic schools
and non-denominational schools.
