located at the southern end of Okanagan Lake is famous
for its Peach Festival, Okanagan Wine Festival and the
host of the Ironman Canada Triathlon. Penticton is known
for its beaches and plethora of water activities. There
is a channel that runs from Okanangan Lake down to Skaha
Lake and if you want to spend 3-4 hours on a sunny day
you can float down the channel. If you don’t have
that much time to spare then cool off at the water park.
For the more adventurous you can try the world class
rock climbing or horse back riding available in the
area.
The Peachfest is an annual tradition which began in
1947 to celebrate the peach harvest. It is a five day
event that features live entertainment, a variety of
food and merchant vendors, parades, arts and crafts
exhibits, various competitions and a square dance festival.
Penticton is also located along the Kettle Valley Railway
and stretches along 500 km of scenic gravel track. The
2.2% gentle grade into Penticton travels through vineyards,
orchards, wineries, and offers unparalleled views of
Okanagan Lake. The trail is ideal for walking, hiking
or cycling.
Since the Okanagan Valley offers one of the longest
golf seasons, Penticton is home to seven championship
courses with another 21 courses within the Penticton
area. Since all of these courses are nestled within
the natural habitat carved from canyons or located within
the desert landscape, golfers enjoy spectacular views
and natural hazards that challenge all skill levels.
Of course it wouldn’t be a city in the Okanagan
Valley without the offering of many wineries. With over
30 wineries in the area you can spend all or part of
your time touring each unique winery, learning about
wines, tasting wines and adding to your wine cellar.
You can even do a wine tour by bicycle.
